Those players that can hit longer drives have an immediate advantage over whatever they are playing with. All else being equal, a player that is permanently hitting wedges and short irons into greens is going to have an easier time playing the course than a shorter hitter. Use these 3 tips to help you hit longer drives and have some more fun with your golf game.
- Grip the Club Firm and Consistent- Sometimes if we grip the club too loosely, in the middle of the swing the grip will tighten so we don't throw the club! This sudden increased tension can cause off line shots and less swing speed. However, if you start with a nice firm grip, you are ready for a swing with more speed.
- Move Ball Position Up In The Stance and Tee It Higher- To hit the ball further, you want to move your ball forward in your stance, or more towards your left foot, and tee it just a bit higher. A good ball position is lined up with the left heel. Along with teeing the ball higher, this promotes an upward hit on the ball which creates less spin, which means more distance. If the ball is too far back, it is more of a descending hit on the ball with too much spin, causing less distance.
- Learn To Repeat an "On Plane" Swing- You have probably felt this before and can remember it..."no matter how hard I swing the ball just goes added and stays straight!" This is because we are swinging perfectly on plane. Get some easy study that will get you swinging on plane so you can rid your swing of the distance killers- The dreaded Slice and Hook.
