Hard drives are leading to every computer out there. They are needed to store all the leading data, from the operating theory to the latest Facebook picture your uploading. They come in all sizes and speeds, yes you can get separate sizes and speeds of hard drives...
Why does speed matter?
Speed refers to the internal spinning of the drive disk, as the disk spins the eye in the drive reads the data on the disk. The faster the drive spins the disk the faster that the data can be read, interpreted and relayed back to you, so it helps speed up the retrieval of information.

Some speed options
The most tasteless speed is 7200 Rpms, that means the hard drive is spinning at 7200 revolutions per minute. Pretty quick right? They get faster! drives can speed up to 15,000 Rpms, grabbing data at lightning fast speeds is very inherent with these drives, we have even have build computers that will load from pressing the power button to full functional in under 60 seconds. Dream that being able to press power and in less than a exiguous your on the internet or play your beloved game! Its inherent with modern technology.
Size matters!
Depending on what your using your computer for, the drive size matters. For the average computer user 500 Gb is more than sufficient. If your salvage a lot of movies, or a die hard gamer. 500 Gb might fill up fast. So 1 Tb or more would be better. You can even link any drives together to get more space. Awhile back we build a computer with 8 Tb of warehouse capacity, that is over 1.5 million songs!
What do I need?
Depends on what you want to do, if your just surfing the internet, talking to friends or doing some E-Paper work then you'll be fine with a 120 Gb - 500 Gb drive running 7200 Rpm, depending on how much you save. If your going to be doing programming, web/graphics construct or try to take over the enemies base in the latest and many games, then I would make sure the speed is about 7200 Rpm and size... Well... How many hard drives can you put in your case?
