Can Flash Drives/Pen Drives be infected with a virus?

Usb pen drives are very useful transported storage devices which are very generally used for transporting computer data from one computer to another. But, as the storage gadget is so base and actually used, the percentage of the Usb drive being infected by viruses has also increased. The Flash Drive can be infected with a virus if you save a virus-infected file to the flash drive or if you use the Flash drive with a virus-infected computer. A virus-infected drive can then infect any other computer you might use with the drive. Not only that, they do many things to harm your Pc.

These viruses usually spread by the removable storage devices like Usb Flash drives. They disable the Task Manager, Cmd (command prompt), Registry Editor, procedure Editor and hide "Folder Option" in the Tools menu of the infected pc. They appear with the similar name to the windows assistance (system files) such as Svchost.exe. Following are some of the names which are used by this virus to appear as system assistance files. Svchots.Exe, Ssvichosst.Exe, Svichossst.Exe, Rvhost.Exe, Svichosst.Exe, etc.After infected they will hide all of your folders in the usb drive and virus application files are appear as your folders. When you double click to open folders the virus application running and will start to run virus process.

Prevent Viruses from Infecting the Usb Pen Drive

1. Use an industry appropriate Anti-Virus software such as: Kaspersky Internet Security/Anti-virus, Avg Internet Security/Anti-virus, Trend-Micro, Norton/Symantec, Microsoft, McAfee, Panda, Sophos, Bullguard, Avast, Avil, Eset etc.
2. Keep your anti-virus schedule up to-date.
3. Do not open the pen drive contents just after plugging.
4. Disable the Autorun functionality in Windows
5. Scan your flash drive for viruses immediately after plugging.
6. Clean all infections if found in your Usb pen by your anti-virus program.
